Zombieland Official Trailer [HD]

Zombieland textual analysis

Zombieland
Mise en scene- the mise en scene shows the white house and how it has fallen and the hands of the undead as there is no longer any democracy this shows that from now on anything goes showing that the world has fallen apart “this is no longer America” as there are few survivors.
Stock characters- within this film there are two main characters Columbus and calahasy Columbus is the main hero in this film which reforest the typical hero because he is a white male but also challenges it as he is not very strong or brave, calahasy is a typical red neck very violent and stupid and is obsessed with weaponry calahasy is the obvious helper in this film as he helps Columbus achieve his goal.
Stock settings- it is set in Texas America where the but the zombie attach is global so as they much they could be going into a gauntlet the director has made it a familiar places to make the film seem real and adds a bigger fear factor to the film particularly to Americans that live in that area, although it is this virus has hit all over the world they keep this film in America this challenges the typical villain theory as the villains are their own crazed people instead of a foreigner
Sound- the sound within this film is mainly rock music setting the scene for how dangerous the situation is because the characters could get bitten or even ate at any point, also the iconic American national anthem is played but it is very disorientated they have done this to show how messed up America has become because of this virus that has spread, also there is digetic sound such as cars crashing or the growling noise which the infected humans make when they are chasing the non infected.
Narrative-the story of this film begins with two main characters which have given each other names the as to stop the feeling of a loose of a friend if one dies so our main hero is Columbus and the helper in this film is a red neck called calahasy their quest is to head to the destinations which they are heading for the places they are heading are the names they have given each other but as this place is filled with grifting survivors and the undead demons you can imagine it is not going to be an easy journey for these to people.
Editing- the editing in this film is similar to most energy filled action films there are many jump cuts and they have slowed down the filming of the saviours running from the infected, the jump cuts are used mainly when the action is unfolding for e.g. when they are being chased through the streets by mass amounts of the infected beings, and also when they are going toe to toe with these creatures and fighting them off with either hand held weapons or fire arms, they have slowed down the clips of the survivors running from the infected to show how close behind the undead are and how close they are to eating them this adds a bigger fear factor to the film because the typical zombie is typically very slow and unlikely to catch many people who are decently fit and can sprint at a reasonable pace, fade outs are used throughout the start of the film this is stop show each survivor attempting to escape from these beings and how much it has spread through America as there are almost no survivors left only a few Americans.
Themes-the main theme in this film is survival as that is there ain goal now not to become like the other creatures around them but they also earn that they can still build a new family even though they have lost their own due to this virus, which sort of adds a moral to the story that family does not have to be blood related people it can be people that show great affection and care for one other.
Camera angles- in this film there have used an establishing shot which shows the white house this lets you know that this film is in America, there are also many close ups and of the characters faces this is when they are often making speeches to one other or when we need to see the emotion on the characters face when the drama folds within the film, and there are often two shots when they are fleeing from the zombies to show their sheer ass of how many there are.
Iconography- there are many iconic things of American in this film for e.g. the white house the one of if not the most iconic building in American so you know where the film is set, another is the “red necks” of their country often having big expensive cars such as hummers and having a great love for guns and weaponry .

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO - Official Trailer - In Theaters 12/21

the girl with the dragon tattoo textual analysis

The girl with the dragon tattoo
Mise en scene- there are many places of meeting shown in this film for e.g. coffee shops or offices but the male in this film is often alone I these places this suggest that he has been shut off from society which we know that he has due to one of his reports that he had published, the two main characters In this film are white this conforms with the typical white supremacy representation as It is often the white race that is show as the most powerful person in the film, it also challenges it as it is often males that are shown not females partially this one as she does not conform with the female dress code as she looks fairly masculine in the way she dresses covering up all of her skin expect her face this could suggest that she has something to hide from us, In this film we find both patriarchy and matriarchy so we can only decipher from this that these two people will meet at some point.
Stock settings- the setting for this film starts in a Swedish journalist office were the male character works this is just to set the scene for the viewers more clearly allowing for easy viewing, it also jumps to where the female character works as she is a investigator she works in an office also meaning that both of these people are highly qualified and perhaps would work well together if the opportunity came around to do so.
Stock characters, Mikael Blomkvist Is a journalist who has fallen on tough times as the last report that he conducted did not go very well and he is currently being ridiculed by the press for it, lisbeth salander is a computer hacker and is a very talented investigator and can find out information about anyone she needs to by using her unique skills, they both end up working together to discover why a woman has been missing for forty years but her grandfather still receives the paintings that she use to paint for him every birthday since she was able.
Themes- women are treated very differently to men this is shown in this film when lisbeth attempts to get more money for her work from her money provider to do this she performs a sexual act for the man as if she were a tool Laura mulveys there an visual pleasure as women are just something to be looked at and not  as human beings, we also see how easy it is for a journalist to be hated by people, if they do not write something which the public agree with the it is likely that they will be ridiculed be others greatly as we see in this film.
Narrative- the story of this film is Mikael is a washed up journalist and is likely to give up his job soon but is give a break be investigating the disappearance of a girl who has been missing for forty years but her grandfather still received the paintings that he use to from her all this time still, lisbeth teams up with Mikael to discover the truth about this missing person and also find love with his new found partner who has been mistreated all of her life but has finally found someone who treats her with respect.
Iconography- journalist often dress in a similar way to each other smartly dressed and smart looking sometimes wearing glasses and are fairly rude in the way that they speak to people for e.g. when they are trying to gather information about people so they can have a story to write about, when people are stressed they tend to smoke this is what Mikael does so I think that the symbol of a cigarette when stressed as an icon also.
Camera angels- in this film there are mainly two man shots and close ups. The two man shot are used to show a conversation between two people more clearly or when they and walking through a crowd of people, the close up of them is to show the emotion on their faces as the drama unfolds further.
Sound-the sound within this film clip is mainly digetic sound for egg general conversations or the sound of lisbeth motorcycle as she drives to her place of work o think the producer has done this to keep a sense of reality within the film and so no music takes away the viewers attention when the action within the film is underway.
Editing-the editing within this film is fairly simple it is mainly jump cuts throughout the film this is because the emotion in the characters face is the main theme in this film as it will change very often due to different inputs from different character within the film, it is also used to show the few action scenes that are within this film more clearly and to show the pain on the characters face as the trauma takes places as this film is also very graphic.

The Wolfman (2010) - Official Trailer [HD]

the wolfman textual analysis

the wolfman
Mise en scene-the mise en scene within this film is remote woodlands, the producer has does this because this is the perfect stomping grounds for this werewolf to stalk his prey which the first we see is Mr. Talbots brother as he has hunted down and eaten by the beast, they were wolf is black furred because of the evil and ungodly acts that it performs upon man as it slaughters many villagers when it is let loose into the night, also there is much traditional craftsmanship around this is also a period set thriller see we see for e.g. a walking stick for a young male which I this age is u heard of as they are usually used nowadays for aid of walking not for the use of the bourgeoisie to show how much money they have to throw around.
Themes- the main theme in this film as of fairly tales as were wolfs do not exist in the real world but the director attempts to fear monger as there they are hidden so well within this society there is no possible way we could not this, also that wealth is often found through who your family are but it does not mean that you are better off than other people as we know that Mr Talbot was set away to an asylum by his father for a reason that we have not uncovered yet but it makes the viewer even more suspicious of the family as they seem very secretive about their ways and the death of their mother is casted in shadow so these makes it very obvious what kind of film this is (mystery thriller) which makes the viewing much easier so people fully understand the film allowing for a more smooth run through.
Narrative- the story of this film is that Lawrence Talbot is acting in London and soon finds out that his brother is missing so he returns to Blackmore which is the place of his birth, on his return he discovers the not only is his brother dead he has also been eaten and dismembered beyond belief so he sets out to find out creature in the forest has done this unspeakable act to his brother but instead he finds out the horrible truth about his family and discovers that his is doomed, but he also fins an unexpected romance with his brothers ex wife and begins to fall in love with her while he is also trying to tackle this rather troublesome problem.
Iconography-werewolf’s in most of their films such as, vanhelsing or the American werewolf all look very similar so when the public see this creature for the first time they know straight away what it is cleaning up and confusion straight away, also the iconic dress code of that era as many furs or simply made clothing was worn, also the bourgeoisie of England are mostly avid hunter and often decorate their walls with the trophy heads of the bucks or bears that they had killed when they have been hunting .
Camera angles- when are first brought into a forest there is a very high angled shot looking down upon the brother that sis going to be brutally murdered, the shot is to show how small this person is and weak compared to the beast he is about to face so we already doubt his chances of survival which makes the viewer fear for this man’s life already, also the close up is often used to show the fear of the characters faces as he is confronted with the man eating beast and how he is frozen still because he is so scared.
Editing-within this film they mainly used jump cuts, this is because the people I this fill are often running from this beast so they cut from beast to man showing how close he is to getting caught but also to show the fear in the victims eyes as he is running for his life across the Moore, but as we see in the clip he doesn’t get far as this creature is far faster than he is.
Sound-the sound often used in this movie is mysterious music, this has been done for obvious reasons it is to set the scene for the film so it makes the viewer concentrate from the start which allows for easy viewing as the viewer will be always aware of what is going on, the digetic sound in this video is used for just general conversation in the film but also for when the creature is roaring or tearing through the flesh of another victim.

Deep Blue Sea (1999) Trailer

deep blue sea textual analysis

deep blue sea
Mise e scene-often in this film where they are is always near water because this is where the villain in this film calls home; many people have a phobia of just the sea itself so adding a flesh eating monster into the sea creates the worst nightmare for some people which makes this film a very scary film indeed, also we are often found in a laboratory as they are using the shark minds to find a cure for a brain crippling disease which occurs In humans but they do not realise that the alterations that they are making to the sharks is making them even more dangerous than they already were they are kept in deep sea cages but a suspect that these will not hold the shark for much longer.
Stock characters-Both of these people challenges the typical bourgeoisie, the black male challenges it because in many films it is often the white male who has all the power because of racial discrimination the black male is often shown as the much lower class even some times casted as the villain because he is an exotic person something that the people of American are unfamiliar with which could cause them to fear him, also because he is casted as intelligent where as in the news the black male is shown as only physically able to achieve highly and not with brain power The female challenges the bourgeoisie because she is a female, as she has a very powerful position because it is often the male that is given the most powerful position but in this case it is more matriarchy than patriarchy, the clothes that they are both wearing show further what kind of work they perform very smartly dressed shows there job is highly paid and when selling their products they wish to show the money they have earned to the opposition to show that they are good at what they do.
Sound-the sound in this film is both diigetic and none diegetic the digetic sound is the peoples voice telling us what they have created and what it is capable of doing this adds more fear into the film as they soon tell us that this is no normal shark and it is capable of cause much harm to the world if they got out of their pen and began breeding with other sharks.
Editing-the editing that is used in this clip consists of jump cuts and a lot of fade ins and fade outs, the jump cuts have been used to show the emotion on the faces of  all the actors as the drama unfolds and the fear on their faces as they are confronted with the beast that they have created, the fade ins and outs are used to make it seem like they are being watched as the editing is that fast it is like something is blinking as it cuts to the next clip.
Stock setting- as we do not know specifically where they are I can only guess that they on are the coast of America somewhere as we are not often on dry none man made land, the settings as I stated early they are often found in a lab messing with shark brain cells in an attempt to save their own species it is almost like het sharks are trying to get their revenge on the humans for messing with their minds.
Theme- the theme of this film lab experiments and how they can go horribly wrong if not kept under control and it is often the case that scientist conduct experiments on animals, perhaps stating that we shouldn’t be messing with nature like this just for personal gain so the producer could be very for animal rights.
Iconography- within this film the sea is the most iconic thing in these films similar to the jaws franchise and similar to other thrillers as labs are often used to conduct sick experiments on humanity but in this case o sharks even if it is just save the world from a disease, another iconic thing in this film is the clothing as people who work in lab often wear the iconic white lab coat so people can recognise what they are straight away.
Narrative- the facility in this film is attempting to create a cure for Alzheimer’s by using brain cells from great white sharks and adding different drugs to their brain cells to see the affect and they stumbled on a specific one that began to work but as a side affect it made the sharks a lot smarter and they began to fight back and kill their masters so now the scientists have to kill what they have created before it escapes into the ocean and breeds
Camera angles- in the first scene we see the scientists looking down upon which is a high angled shot on the shark showing that they have the power in this situation because of all the hi-tech machinery they posses but as the clip goes on when see the shark towering over the human showing that without their machinery they are nothing but prey to them as these sharks are sizably larger than they are.

Taken - Official® Trailer [HD]

taken textual analysis

taken
Mise en scene –the main scenes in this film are inside of buildings this suggests that the theme of the film fits the theme in real life as the sex trafficking business is very large but it is hidden very well that is what they have brought into the film most of the film is set I Paris which is said to be the most romantic place in the world which adds irony to the film as there is Cleary no love there.
Camera angles-Close ups and two men shots are often used within this films, this is because it shows the emotion on all the characters faces and the drama much better as it unfolds further and further, destruction is the main theme in this film as he rampages through Paris tearing through houses and work yards showing the power that he possesses as he is only one man and he is taken on a mass gang with and huge arsenal of weapons this tells us that the main character in this film is very well trained in the art of murder and has performed acts similar to this many times before.
Sound- the sound within this clip is classical music, this has been chosen because it suits the emotion in this clip a lot better than any other type of music that could have been chosen and it also complements the explosions and the violence within the clip very nicely exaggerating the fighting and explosions so much so it almost looks like that there is a war happening.
Stock settings- the main characters within this film are Bryan mills who is a retired CIA officer and his daughter called Maggie grace who is taking an trip to Paris and is un a wear of the dangers she is about to encounter ad her father has two step in, famke Janssen is Bryans ex wife and does not play a big part in this film at all she plays the lenient mother allowing their daughter to go.
Stock settings-the city that this film is set is the well known city Paris which is normal and none threatening place which also add fear to the film because they do not expect it to be dangerous.
Narrative-the story of taken is the father figure I this film (Liam neeson) finds out his daughter is going on a trip to Paris, he is unhappy about this but allows her to go he soon finds out that she has been kidnapped and sets out o a quest 0i get his daughter back using his skills as a retired CIA agent meaning that there will be much violence along the way.
Theme-the theme of this film is the black market business of sex trafficking and how it can and will affect the life’s of Bryans family if he does not retrieve his daughter there is a specific time that he has to get his daughter back if he does not get her back within this time limit he will never get her back which adds an element of suspense to the film and if h will get her in time it also is racists as it is an Albanian gang that steals his daughter which is typical of this genre as it is often people from a foreign country who are being the criminals never the Americans.
Iconography-one of the biggest recognised organisation in America is the CIA as it is well known throughout the world they partake in secret activities that they do not want other countries to know and often bring down criminals that are dangerous to the start and other countries these people are often smartly dressed in suits and such which is what we find Liam Nesson wearing, Paris is the most known place in France and is a very multi cultural place  homing people from many different nations and is where many Albanians call home so it also makes sense as well as being an good film.
Editing-within this film there are many jump cuts and fade ins/outs, the jump cuts are used to show the emotion o each of the characters faces as the drama unfolds and also in the fight scenes to show the power of the punch or the gun shot he just did, the fade ins/outs are used to fade in the facts about the sex trafficking business and then fades out and back in showing the demon act happening to his own daughter adding a bigger fear facture.
